DEMO VERSIONS
These demo versions of Asset Register are fully featured and runs in exactly
the same
way as the full version once open.
When opening the demo versions though they only allow you to have 25 records
in the program.
Consequently if you closed the demo version with 1000 records in it, upon opening
the program
will delete all records apart from the first twenty five.
Once you have the program open you can import and use as many records as you
wish.
DOWNLOADING AN UPDATED FRONT END
Your Asset Register has two important parts. ( among others )
1.) The front end executable application file called "Asset Register.exe"
( Windows name )
2.) The data file with all your asset data in it called "Database1.vdb"
As alterations and improvements are made to the Asset Register, updated
versions will be posted for download above. The file which alterations are made
to is only the
"Asset Register.exe" file, no other files are changed in any way.
So, if an updated version is available and you would like to start using the
new version, all
you have to get is a new "Asset Register.exe" file. DO NOT REPLACE
your "Database1.vdb" file
as this is the file which contains all your precious asset data.
To get your new front end file ie "Asset Register.exe" simply download
a new Demo version
from one of the links above. Once you've downloaded and unzipped the demo version
find the
"Asset Register.exe" file in the Application folder. Replace your
old "Asset Register.exe" file
with this new one. Trash the rest of the new files you have downloaded, they
are of no use to you.
If you are downloading a new front end to update an existing copy check on the
Version history page
to see whether you need a new help file as well. Read through the improvements
made to this version,
if changes have been made to the Helpfile.txt it will be mentioned here. Scroll
down to download a
new help file.
If you have any queries regarding this please don't hesitate to

UPDATING YOUR DATA FILE USING A PATCH.
Sometimes it is necessary to make changes and updates to your data file. This
is the file called
'Database1.vdb' found in your 'Supportfiles' folder. In order to do this the
program must process
a file which is referred to in this case as a 'Patch'. This will only apply
if you have an older copy
of the Asset Register program than is currently available for download from
this site. It is most
likely you will have been notified by email, informing you that running this
patch is necessary for
your copy of the program.
PRIOR TO RUNNING THIS PATCH, PLEASE BACK UP YOUR DATA FILE. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE
HOW
TO DO THIS, PLEASE REFER TO THE HELP FILE INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM OR CLICK
HERE TO
READ MORE ABOUT BACKING UP. ALTERNATIVELY CONTACT US
DIRECTLY.
To run this patch and update the structure of your data file, simply download
the file below to your
desktop. The downloaded file is a .zip file and will have to be unzipped using
either WinZip or stuffit
Expander. Once downloaded and unzipped, start the Asset Register program. In
the 'File' menu
choose 'Database' and then choose 'Update'. An open file dialog box will appear,
navigate your way
to the desktop ( or wherever you downloaded the Patch file to ) and open the
unzipped Patch file.
The program should run the patch and inform you that it has updated the data
file successfully. If
the program does not update successfully, please email or contact us. Once you
have run this patch
successfully you can trash the patch file.
